Security company Zellic Lianchuang discovered and reported a minor and harmless bug in WETH

On November 19, cts, co-founder of blockchain security company Zellic, discovered and reported a minor but harmless error in WETH's totalSupply implementation. Since it does not consider SELFDESTRUCT/coinbase eth transfers, injecting ETH into the WETH contract through the SELFDESTRUCT (self-destruction) function will increase the ETH balance in the contract, but will not mint any new tokens, making the totalSupply function variables in the WETH contract out of sync, that is, the total amount of WETH Tokens is less than or equal to the native ETH balance in WETH. Currently, WETH has participated in more than 125 million transactions on the entire Ethereum mainnet, and more than 7% of Ethereum transactions involve WETH; in addition, in the past year, 11.5% of the 420 million Ethereum transactions involved WETH.
