Twitter is developing a blockchain-related collectibles tag to showcase users’ NFT collections

Twitter is developing a tab to showcase users’ NFT collections, a feature the platform first began developing in September. A tweet from Twitter software engineer Mada Aflak first showed the early stages of its experiment in late September.

The tweet’s video demonstrates how to connect a crypto wallet from popular providers like Coinbase, Metamask, and Crypto.com, then select one of your NFTs as your profile picture. Your full NFT collection will be stored in a tab on your profile, labeled Collectibles.

Once selected, your profile picture will feature a small badge verifying that it’s a genuine NFT. Twitter hinted at letting users verify NFTs in their tweets in September, so this detail won’t come as a surprise.

These were the early days of the feature, and engineer Jane Manchun Wong tweeted out how it has changed since then. She sent out a tweet showing a more detailed version than the glimpse we initially got.

In addition to the collectibles tab, Wong revealed that Twitter is developing a view that will let you take a closer look at NFTs. You can also click through to a page that displays detailed information about the NFT, including a description, its creator, any properties, and some information about the collection. One change about the collectibles tab is that it will appear to replace the "Likes" tab on your profile - Wong pointed out that you have to scroll horizontally to see it.

The feature dedicated to NFTs is a nice touch, and developer Nathan Lawrence noted that Twitter could potentially use its resources to add better features specifically for combating misinformation.

In the past year, the NFT market has been in a stage of rapid development. In addition to Twitter releasing 140 NFT collectibles some time ago, many brands with strong international influence have also begun to try NFT.

Because NFT is unique and indivisible, text, pictures, videos or even tweets carried in the form of NFT are equivalent to an identity authentication in the digital world, and this authentication determines the uniqueness of the NFT.

The satisfaction brought by this digital ownership is also the reason why NFT collections are loved by many people. It is precisely because of the establishment of digital ownership that NFT has scarcity and collection value.

Twitter's participation has continuously increased the popularity of NFT and opened up more application scenarios for NFT. I believe that in the future, as the application of NFT becomes more extensive and more people participate in it, the value of NFT will be understood by more people.
