On September 14, Visa CEO Alfred Kelly discussed the future of cryptocurrency in the podcast "Leadership Next". Kelly expressed his thoughts on the development of cryptocurrencies in the next five years, believing that cryptocurrencies could become "very popular." On the other hand, Kelly believes that cryptocurrencies could be very successful, but they could also end up failing. He explained that while cryptocurrency may not be going anywhere, Visa wants to be ahead of it. Explaining what might happen to cryptocurrency in the next five years, Kelly said, "I don't know where cryptocurrency is going to be. Suppose in five years, it's a fad and no big deal; or it's going to be extremely popular? I'm not smart enough to know; but I'm smart enough to make sure our company is in it today." Kelly said Bitcoin is seen as the digital successor to gold. As such, the company is working to enable the purchase and conversion of cryptocurrencies. Visa plans to enable its customers to seamlessly convert cryptocurrencies into fiat currencies. Kelly explained that the company is also focusing on using cryptocurrencies to transfer cash, not just for payments. |
