According to a poll by the University of Central America (UCA) cited by Reuters: At least 67.9% of the 1,281 people surveyed said they disagreed or strongly opposed the use of Bitcoin as legal tender; More than 32% said they agreed to some extent; nine in ten had no clear understanding of Bitcoin; eight in ten said they had little confidence in the use of Bitcoin; and seven in ten believed that lawmakers should repeal the law that makes it legal tender. The survey also showed that most Salvadorans believe that the main beneficiaries of the bill will be the rich, foreign investors, government and business leaders, and are concerned that the use of Bitcoin may have negative effects. As previously reported, the El Salvador legislature passed a bill in June this year to establish Bitcoin as legal tender, and the bill will officially come into effect on September 7. |
