Twitter will allow users to add BTC and ETH addresses to their profiles

Twitter appears to be working on a feature that would allow users to add Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses to their profiles.

The latest news is believed to be part of Twitter’s Tip Jar feature, which was launched in May this year, and adds to reports that emerged earlier this week that the company will allow content creators to receive Bitcoin tips.

On September 3, Alessandro Paluzzi, an Italian mobile developer and self-proclaimed “leaker,” posted screenshots on Twitter showing that the settings toolbar of the Twitter app version has BTC and ETH wallet address options.

Twitter is working on letting you add Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses to your profile to receive tips through the Tip Jar feature

ℹ️ No need to link a Strike account to add them to your profile.

While the news is not official yet, Twitter product lead Kayvon Beykpour retweeted Paluzzi’s Sept. 1 post about the Bitcoin tipping feature with a lightning bolt and “soon” arrow emoji.

In July, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey hinted that Bitcoin tipping was part of a broader plan to integrate Bitcoin into the platform through avenues such as commerce and subscriptions.

On August 31, a report from MacRumours stated that the Bitcoin tipping feature will be implemented using Lightning Network payment platform Strike. However, Paluzzi stated that “there is no need to link a Strike account” to add a BTC address to a user profile.

Dorsey's Square company has outlined multiple BTC plans for 2021, including developing a secondary custodial wallet and launching BTC-based DeFi services. Given that Dorsey is a Bitcoin maximalist, the idea of Bitcoin being used to tip content creators on Twitter is not surprising. However, for this technology leader who has clearly refused to have anything to do with Ethereum in the past, the reason for the inclusion of ETH seems unknown.
