According to a report on August 31, residents of a community in Alberta, Canada, recently heard noise from a nearby power plant for a long time and eventually discovered an unauthorized Bitcoin mine. Link Global's bitcoin mining operation in Sturgeon County consists of four shipping containers filled with computer servers. A fifth shipping container is also set up on site for possible future expansion. Vancouver-based Link Global set up four 1.25-megawatt natural gas generators at the site, drawing power from dormant natural gas wells owned by Calgary-based MAGA Energy. The company did not notify neighbours of its plans, nor did it notify the county. Now the company that opened the plant, Link Global, has been ordered by the province's Public Utilities Commission to shut down both plants. |
