On February 18, the U.S. government accused three North Korean hackers of being involved in a series of cyber crimes, including thefts from hundreds of businesses, including several in the cryptocurrency industry. Much of the $1.3 billion theft revealed by the Justice Department on Wednesday appears to be tied to illegal money transfers from bank accounts. But the Justice Department's statement said several unnamed crypto companies were targeted, including a Slovenian mining company. According to the documents, three hackers stole a total of about $111.7 million. The Justice Department said $1.9 million in cryptocurrency had been confiscated and would be returned to the New York-based company. |
