Bitcoin’s price is rising, but that’s not the only metric breaking records. According to data site Glassnode, Bitcoin’s “realized” price has once again hit a new all-time high of $7,670.15. The "realized" price is different from the actual transaction price because it refers to the value of Bitcoin in active use, calculated by dividing the "realized" capital by the circulating supply. It monitors the value of active cryptocurrencies and can exclude lost Bitcoins or cryptocurrencies that have been dormant for many years. Today, Glassnode announced that the total “realized” value of Bitcoin has also hit a new all-time high of $142.43 billion. First devised by analytics firm Coin Metrics, the metric measures the total value of each cryptocurrency by multiplying the time since it last moved by that amount. So if Bitcoin last moved in 2018 at $4,000, the metric would consider that price when calculating the “realized” cap, not today’s price. These new all-time highs indicate a healthy market: Bitcoin’s price has broken records this year as interest in the world of cryptocurrencies, particularly decentralized finance, surges, with interest from institutional investors prompting more people to invest in the currency. According to CoinMarketCap data, Bitcoin’s current price broke through the $19,000 mark today, reaching $19,171, up 4.42% in the past 24 hours. |
