Filecoin Space Race Participation Guide

According to the official news of Filecoin, the Filecoin testnet reward plan will start at 6:00 am Beijing time on August 25 (next Tuesday). In the three-week reward competition, miners will compete for up to 4.1 million FIL token rewards by providing as much storage space as possible. Epoch 0 will start on time at 6:00 am.

01 About the Space Race

The Testnet Incentive Program is a collaborative competition that aims to incentivize miners around the world to stress-test the Filecoin network in the form of token rewards in preparation for the ultimate secure, stable, and efficient launch of the Filecoin network.

According to the official reward plan, the top 100 miners in the world and the top 50 miners in each continent will receive up to 4 million FIL token rewards based on the storage achieved by miners and the network during the competition. During the past month of competition preparation, more than 240 miners from 5 continents have been preparing to join the competition network, with a network packaging speed of up to 1TiB/second (15PiB in 3 days).

In addition, the top 20 miners in terms of block rewards will share an additional 100,000 FIL token rewards in proportion to the block rewards they received. After the competition starts, you can view the award ranking in real time on reward.testnet.fildev.network.

- The competition network mortgage requirement is reduced to no more than 1 FIL/Sector

Currently, the code of the competition has been merged into the master. It should be noted that the official has lowered the mortgage standard, and the upper limit of the mortgage margin is set to 1FIL/Sector. This means that miners can encapsulate more sectors at full speed with only a small amount of FIL coins as collateral, and obtain more effective computing power as soon as possible.

In addition, this Thursday, the calibration network will undergo its final reset before the competition, running the same code that will be used in the competition.

- Miners need to maintain a storage and retrieval order success rate of more than 80%.

Miners participating in the competition need to respond to storage and retrieval order requests from the competition robot and maintain a success rate of no less than 80%. The robot will start trading with miners who successfully package sectors within 12-24 hours after the start of the competition, and will continue to make order requests throughout the competition.

Additionally, to demonstrate a miner’s ability to execute a full sector lifecycle, miners will need to perform at least one committed capacity sector upgrade to be eligible for competition rewards.

02Joining the Space Race

Filcoin officially provides miners with many new competition tools and prepares better documentation to help miners participate in the space race smoothly.

Competition Faucet: The new and improved faucet will help miners submit storage to the network smoothly. The Filecoin team will try to simulate the real mining scenario in this competition, so miners will have enough FIL for packaging, but not too many tokens to prevent abuse.

Account authentication: Participants who want to obtain FIL tokens must use a Github account that has been registered for more than 48 hours for authentication.

One-time FIL grant: Participants can initially receive 100 FIL from the faucet to their address at one time.

Miner FIL subsidy: Once a participant has an active miner role, they can get additional FIL through the faucet every 24 hours. The miner will receive 1000 FIL for the first time, and 200 FIL each time thereafter. The way for miners to obtain this subsidy is to enter the miner ID into the faucet, and FIL will be sent to its corresponding address. It should be noted that this is separate from the one-time subsidy (100 FIL). Miners can request a one-time FIL subsidy and a miner FIL subsidy within 24 hours after the competition network is opened.

In addition, in order to facilitate miners to package data at high speed, the official sends FIL subsidies to the miner's address in real time through the faucet robot (this mechanism only applies to the space race, not the main network), so that some miners can package efficiently and quickly.

Connection Checker and Logs: Miners can check their dial-up and connection status on the dashboard to ensure they can successfully receive storage and retrieval orders. To track and debug any issues with storage and retrieval orders, miners can retrieve and view logs of all requests from competition bots via spacerace.filecoin.io.

Order Filtering: If a miner receives many orders from other clients, resulting in a low order success rate for the competition robot, it can use the order acceptance criteria described in the Space Race FAQ to only accept orders from designated clients. The client IDs of the competition robots can be found at spacerace.filecoin.io.

In addition, Filecoin officials have added many new documents based on the network status during the calibration period, and will update the documents in the next few days to help miners smoothly join the competition network.

03Space Race Related Activities

During the space race, Filcoin officials will carry out a series of related activities.

- Space Race Opening Event

• Filcoin will officially hold the Space Race Opening Ceremony at 6 a.m. Beijing time on August 27 (Thursday) to celebrate the start of the competition, and the team will also deliver a speech at the opening ceremony.
