HackFS plan released, Filecoin reignites!

As the launch of the Filecoin mainnet approaches, the Filecoin ecosystem is developing at an astonishing speed. Filecoin miners are focusing on the creation of small, medium and large infrastructures.

The testnet just passed the 9PiB test , and developers are actively developing applications, developer tools, and more. There are hundreds of people building things based on Filecoin, but so far most of them have been working independently. It’s time for us to come together and create new sparks.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Filecoin Ignite (ignite.fil.events) project , a series of events to bring the community together to learn, showcase, and develop together. It is also a special opportunity to deepen your understanding of technology and share knowledge, and it is also a great opportunity to break boundaries and create wonderful ideas together. Through this, you can show the world what you are committed to, and you can showcase your products in events set up for different groups.

We currently have 6 major events . We have announced one: SpaceRace (filecoin.io/blog/announcing-testnet-incentives/), a global competition for Filecoin miners.

Today, we are announcing our second event: the HackFS Hackathon (hackfs.com) This is a collaboration with one of our favorite teams in the Web3 space: the amazing ETHGlobal team .

Many activities in Ignite will set up substantial rewards for powerful developers and miners. We expect the total reward pool to exceed 4 million FIL and $250,000 , which will be distributed among various activities.

HackFS (hackfs.com) is a 30-day online hackathon event aimed at building the foundation for the distributed web . Developers will build dapps, games, developer tools, DeFi integrations, and other technologies that use distributed storage. HackFS will be hosted by ETHGlobal (ethglobal.co) and Protocol Labs (protocol.ai) and organize other hackathon content: workshops, mentoring sessions, presentations, AMAs, and prizes!

Come learn about IPFS, Filecoin, Ethereum, Textile, libp2p, and more in the web3 space! Join the community to connect with hackers around the world and meet the core developers of these technologies. Attend workshops, learn best practices, and find answers to your questions. Brainstorm, prototype, create your project, and launch!

The ETHGlobal team will bring its unique " white glove " approach to supporting developers participating in the event, and Protocol Labs will ensure that even developers new to distributed storage can succeed. At the end of the hackathon, we will watch all the content submitted on the live demo day, win rewards, and continue to create your outstanding projects.

HackFS is the next step in their stellar online hackathon program . We’re excited to see this amazing team bring their magic to the Filecoin and IPFS communities.

We originally defined Ignite as a hackathon, but as we discussed the possibilities with other friends, we realized that we needed to expand our thinking. The Filecoin, IPFS, and web3 communities are large and broad. Filecoin alone has many different components.

Miners, developers, users, businesses, researchers, and token holders are all interested in many different areas. Filecoin and IPFS have a lot of intersections with other projects, networks, and communities. Many people prefer to participate in events based on their region, language, and time zone, and many talented teams in the community want to create their own events.

So, understanding these underlying factors, we decided to decentralize Ignite: we turned it into a series of events so that groups can come together and host events that fit their interests. There are currently 6 main events , and we hope to add more. We also want many small meetups and communities to come together and bounce ideas off of each other.
