Huawei has disclosed 4 blockchain-related patents this month

According to the patent search and analysis platform of the State Intellectual Property Office, the patents that have been made public so far show that Huawei Terminal Co., Ltd. and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. have applied for a total of 27 blockchain-related patents.

According to Tianyancha information, Huawei recently applied for a patent for "Blockchain-based Settlement Method, Blockchain Node and Client". According to the application materials, the application embodiment discloses a blockchain settlement method, including the entire process of using blockchain to process and verify the original call bill sent by the client, and generate bill data based on the settlement results.

According to further inquiries by Caijing.com and Chain Finance, and based on the patent search and analysis platform of the State Intellectual Property Office, the patents that have been made public so far show that Huawei Terminal Co., Ltd. and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. have applied for a total of 27 blockchain-related patents. The earliest blockchain patent application was filed in March 2016, mainly about using blockchain to store copyright management matters to achieve the credibility and security of copyright content.

According to statistics, Huawei applied for 5 of the 27 patents in 2016, and applied for 11 and 10 blockchain-related patents in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Although only one patent was applied for in April this year, most of these patents were made public this year, with a rough estimate of 19 patents.

In addition to the "Blockchain-based Settlement Method, Blockchain Node and Client" patent shown by Tianyancha, the patents disclosed this month also include the "Identity Management Method, Device, Communication Network and Storage Medium" patent, which was applied for in March last year and disclosed on the 8th of this month, as well as the "Business Management Method and Related Equipment" and "Blockchain Endorsement Method and Device" patents disclosed on October 11. These three patents respectively involve the management of operator identification in the blockchain network, the use of blockchain nodes for business interaction management, and the endorsement of smart contracts.

In general, in addition to blockchain copyright management, the patent content also involves blockchain-based digital content distribution, blockchain network authentication and processing of data (including transaction information and identity identification), media content licensing control mechanism, consensus confirmation, cross-chain transactions, blockchain settlement and other technologies.

Last week, the Cyberspace Administration of China just publicly released the second batch of domestic blockchain information service names and registration numbers. Huawei is also on the list. Specifically, Huawei Software Technologies Co., Ltd. applied for registration of Huawei Cloud Blockchain Service.

At the same time, on this filing list, Alibaba Cloud Computing Co., Ltd. also applied for Alibaba Cloud Blockchain Service filing. In comparison, compared with Alibaba's many high-profile appearances in blockchain, especially in the number of blockchain-related patents, Huawei's blockchain layout is relatively low-key. Judging from the number of patents alone, there is a certain gap between the two sides. According to a report released by intellectual property media IPR Daily last month, the number of blockchain invention patents issued worldwide from January 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019 was listed, among which China ranked first, accounting for 67% of the patent applications, and Alibaba's number of patents reached 322, ranking first.

In fact, as early as April 2018, Huawei released a 49-page "Huawei Blockchain White Paper". According to Zhilian Finance, Huawei's exploration in the blockchain field is mostly focused on Huawei Cloud business. Its landing area is also completely concentrated on the B-side. Based on Huawei Cloud, Huawei is helping partners promote the implementation of blockchain technology.
