Bitmain is stepping up the construction of Bitcoin mines in the United States. Golden Finance learned from Bitmain officials that on October 18, 2019, Bitmain announced in Rockdale, Texas that it would build a 50-megawatt cryptocurrency mining farm together with the Rockdale Development District (MDD) and DMG. Clinton Brown, Rockdale project manager at Bitmain, said: “We are pleased to launch the cryptocurrency mining farm in Rockdale, which is crucial to Bitmain’s global expansion plan. For the cryptocurrency mining industry, Texas’ stable and efficient energy resources are very important and will further promote the growth of the entire industry.” Golden Finance learned that Bitmain hopes to build the world's largest cryptocurrency mining business, and the mine project in Rockdale is part of this plan. Therefore, Bitmain previously acquired 33,000 acres of land from Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) in Rockdale in 2018 and built an initial 25-megawatt cryptocurrency mine. Bitmain will now continue to build a 50-megawatt cryptocurrency mining facility, and Bitmain expects the Rockdale mine project to expand to more than 300 megawatts in the future. The city of Rockdale, Texas, has been looking to develop new industry projects, and Bitmain is undoubtedly an important partner for the city's future development. John King, the mayor of Rockdale, also said: "We are very happy to continue our partnership with Bitmain." It is reported that the mine to be established in Texas will adopt a brand-new development and design patent. This project is Bitmain’s third cryptocurrency mining project invested in the United States, and Texas is also one of Bitmain’s most strategic overseas locations. DMG Chief Operating Officer Sheldon Bennett, who will manage and operate the mining facility in Rockdale, said: “This cryptocurrency mining facility marks a significant milestone in the development of the cryptocurrency mining industry, and we are honored to be working with Bitmain, a leading innovator in the mining space.” DMG intends to provide hosting and management services for Bitmain’s mining farm in Texas, and the two parties will also work together to expand capacity and ensure the efficient operation of Bitmain’s mining machines. Bitmain and DMG also plan to work with the local labor committee Rockdale MDD to develop the project, and will recruit locals to form a team responsible for managing mining facilities. In addition, local suppliers in Rockdale will become the preferred suppliers for the project to better support the ongoing data center construction. To provide enough electricity for the project, Bitmain will purchase energy directly from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which operates the power grid in Rockdale, Texas. In addition, Bitmain will also work with local school districts to provide education and training services on blockchain technology and mining data center operations. Through these efforts, Bitmain hopes to contribute to the future development of the surrounding community. |
