Sina Finance reported on August 28 that in response to reports that "the central bank will officially launch digital currency in the next few months", a source close to the central bank exclusively responded to Sina Finance that the above content is inaccurate speculation.

In the early hours of Beijing time today, Forbes released a latest report saying that according to informed sources, the People's Bank of China will officially launch digital currency in the next few months, and will initially issue it to seven institutions including Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (5.390, -0.03, -0.55%), China Construction Bank (6.940, -0.01, -0.14%), Bank of China (3.550, -0.02, -0.56%), Agricultural Bank of China (3.410, 0.00, 0.00%), Alibaba, Tencent and UnionPay. According to a former government employee, the central bank's digital currency may be officially launched on November 11 this year. Once this digital currency is launched as scheduled, the People's Bank of China will become the first central bank in the world to officially launch a digital currency.

According to the former government staff member, the central bank’s digital currency technology was already mature last year. Another anonymous source who was involved in the development of the central bank’s digital currency has also confirmed to Forbes that the seven institutions are about to receive new assets.
