Mining Trojans obtain "currency" rewards from the digital cryptocurrency system by completing a large number of calculations. From the beginning of the year to March, mining Trojans were most active, with about 150,000 mining Trojan samples generated daily; it began to decline in April, and remained at about 60,000 samples per day in May and June. Mining Trojans will expand rapidly when digital virtual currencies heat up, and will also slowly cool down when digital virtual currencies cool down. The total size of mining Trojan samples accounts for a large proportion of all virus Trojan types, and is the most common type of virus in recent years.
From the mining Trojan incidents in the first half of 2019, it was found that although the number of new mining Trojan families was less than that in 2018, some families had a phenomenon of rapid and continuous version updates, which shows that the black industry personnel are not focusing on "one-shot" sales, but turning to the idea of ​​continuous operation and improvement of Trojans and rapid iteration. Tencent Yujian has observed that the functional design of mining Trojans is becoming more and more complex, and they are constantly innovating in hiding methods and attack methods, and their technical confrontation with antivirus vendors is constantly increasing. Therefore, Tencent Yujian Threat Intelligence Center believes that large known mining Trojan families will continue to have variants in the second half of 2019, and new mining Trojans will continue to appear.
