Iranian minister says Chinese miners are taking advantage of Iran's cheap electricity

According to beincrypto, Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology said that Chinese Bitcoin miners are moving to Iran. Although there is a lack of specific and sufficient evidence to support this view, he said that low electricity prices are encouraging the so-called “escape.”
Iranian government minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said the subsidized energy provided by the Iranian government to its citizens is making Bitcoin mining attractive in the country, according to local news outlet PressTV.
This has led to Chinese Bitcoin miners flocking to Iran. The Minister of Communications and Information Technology could not provide evidence to support his claim, but said he had heard about it "informally."
Jahromi went on to say that he believes these efforts are for personal gain, not for the Chinese government itself:

“The Chinese government has no plans to get involved in cryptocurrency mining in Iran. However, the Chinese private sector and people may be involved in this field.”

Iran’s foreign minister made the comments following a visit to China, where he met with senior officials to discuss how the two countries can cooperate in developing the digital economy.
Bitcoin mining in Iran has become increasingly popular in recent months as lower residential electricity costs have made it more profitable. Many Iranians pay as little as 5 cents per watt, which is about 5% of the price per watt of energy exported from Iran to other countries.
It is estimated that Bitcoin mining currently consumes around 700 megawatts of electricity per day in Iran, prompting the government to ban individuals from mining Bitcoin there.
A recent report by Forbes revealed that a sudden increase in electricity consumption in Iran is making the country's power grid unstable. However, Energy Ministry spokesman Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi claimed that Bitcoin mining is not the only reason for the spike in Bitcoin usage. However, he believes that such an unstable power grid will affect other users who do not absorb a lot of electricity from the grid, which prompted the government to seize about 1,000 mining rigs from individuals at the end of last month.
