The cryptocurrency Vertcoin (VTC) has suffered four 51% double-spending attacks in the past two months

Data from PeckShield Situational Awareness Platform today shows that the cryptocurrency Vertcoin (VTC) was attacked by a 51% double-spending attack between November 29 and December 2. The attack occurred between block heights 1043103 and 1044333, and the attacker's blocks 1043110, 1043619, and 1044432 all contained double-spending attack transactions.

It is understood that this is the fourth 51% attack suffered by VTC in the past two months, with a total loss of more than $100,000. The Vertcoin network currently has a total computing power of about 3.25TH/s and a market value of about $14.4 million, ranking 190th on Coinmarketcap.com.

Given the relatively low trading volumes of Vertcoin trading pairs, as well as the financial and legal risks of such attacks, it is highly unlikely that these attacks were launched for financial gain.

VertCoin is a virtual currency that uses a unique Adaptive N-factor in Scrypt algorithm for POW mining, which can produce 84 million coins. The output is halved every 840,000 blocks, and the initial block output is 50 coins, with no pre-mining. Its unique algorithm can effectively prevent ASIC-specific mining machines, so that more people can participate in mining and achieve better decentralization.
