Norwegian man brutally murdered after Bitcoin transaction

A Norwegian man was brutally stabbed to death shortly after completing a cash-for- Bitcoin transaction, and investigators believe the two incidents may be connected.

The 24-year-old victim was stabbed in his apartment in the affluent Majorstuen neighborhood of Oslo on Monday morning, sometime between 7:50 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., Norwegian news organization TV 2 reported. His roommate was the first to discover the crime scene.

Sources within the Oslo Police Department told TV 2 that the murder victim had completed a Bitcoin transaction shortly before the tragedy and that other people in his social circle were also aware of his cryptocurrency dealings.

Grete LIen Metlid, head of the intelligence and investigation department of the Oslo Police Department, told the New York Times that investigators have learned of a clue that may be related to Bitcoin, but he declined to provide more details.

Metlid said, "We have been informed of the information regarding the Bitcoin transactions, but we will not provide any further information regarding this investigation at this time."

Police had not released any suspects and no arrests had been made as of press time. Forensic analysts continued to examine the scene Wednesday evening, according to local media reports.
