21-year-old Russian man suspected of using government servers to mine Bitcoin

Bianews reported on October 17 that according to local news agency Ura.Ru, citing the Russian Federal Security Regional Office, a 21-year-old Russian from the Siberian city of Kurgan, Russia, is facing criminal charges for allegedly illegally mining Bitcoin by using government-owned servers.


The investigation found that the man had hacked into public administration servers in three Russian regions. The breach was discovered when the internal security department of the city of Yaroslavl noticed an intruder trying to hack into their equipment. If found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison.
