30 Bitcoin mining machines stolen, police video tracking and arrest of suspect

In the past two years, some residents have joined the ranks of installing virtual currency Bitcoin mining machines to earn Bitcoins, and then earn profits through online transactions. Since each "mining machine" is worth a lot of money, criminals have seen the "business opportunity" in it.

At 7:11 on June 26, the Taiping Police Station of Dagang Branch received a report from the public that seven "Antminers" placed in an uninhabited bungalow on the east side of a village committee in Taiping Town, Binhai New Area were stolen. After receiving the report, the case officers quickly rushed to the scene for investigation. The doors and windows of the bungalow were damaged, and the seven "miners" in the room were missing. Through three consecutive days of peripheral visits and video tracking investigations, the image of an important criminal suspect was obtained.

The police analyzed that the suspects might have sold the stolen mining machines to other mining machine operators, so the police investigated the mining machine operators in the area and finally found the operator who bought the stolen mining machines. According to the operator, four young people drove to him and claimed that they were also operating mining machines, but they did not want to operate them anymore because the mining machines consumed too much electricity and wanted to transfer their mining machines.

By identifying the images of the suspects, it was determined that Liu and four others were major suspects. The police immediately analyzed the activities of Liu and others and determined their locations. On June 29, four days after the crime, the Taiping Police Station organized police forces to arrest Liu and others.

After interrogation, Liu and four others truthfully confessed that in order to squander money and meet their high consumption needs, they conspired to use the late night time to break into the two bungalows where the "mining machines" were stored, stealing a total of 30 "mining machines" and selling them, obtaining more than 30,000 yuan in stolen money. Liu and others have now been criminally detained according to law. At present, the case is under further investigation. (Editor Hou Jing of Jinyun News)
