The first case in Japan: A person was sentenced for maliciously using other people’s computers for mining

On the 2nd, the Sendai District Court sentenced a 24-year-old unemployed man in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, who was arrested for illegally obtaining and providing electromagnetic records of other people's instructions for the purpose of obtaining virtual currency by using other people's computers without their consent. The defendant was sentenced to one year in prison and three years of probation. This is the first time in Japan that illegal mining has been sentenced.


It is reported that the defendant wrote a mining program into an online game auxiliary tool between January and February, posted it on his blog, and used others to download the tool to mine.


Between March and June, police agencies in 10 prefectures across Japan, including Miyagi, launched a concentrated crackdown on illegal mining activities, arresting a total of 16 defendants.
