Don't worry about fake resumes, University College London can verify them with Bitcoin

If you were treated by a doctor with a fake degree, or if you were eliminated from a job application by another applicant with a fake resume, would you feel heartbroken by the less obvious truth? Unfortunately, this situation is all too common around the world today because the required document verification is too cumbersome or too expensive. However, Bitcoin may provide an answer to these problems and prevent them from happening in the future.

Verify your resume via Bitcoin

University College London (UCL) recently announced that its Centre for Blockchain Technologies has completed a pilot program that enabled graduates of the university’s Masters in Financial Risk Management course to instantly verify the authenticity of their qualifications using Bitcoin.

All graduates of the course in 2016 and 2017 can register their degree details on a newly developed platform developed by London-based startup Gradbase. The university checks the authenticity of the data and a transaction is issued by the system, verifying the authenticity of the degrees via Bitcoin.

Participating graduates were given a QR code that can be placed on their CV, business cards or professional documents, which anyone can scan to verify the authenticity of the document. Cédric Colle, co-founder of the company, commented:

“Academic fraud is a global problem that requires a global solution. Gradbase aims to be the first easy-to-use and reliable platform to verify global credentials.”

University College London Blockchain Technology Centre

Founded in 1826, University College London is located in the city of London, England and is the third largest university in the UK. It has approximately 38,000 students from 150 different countries and more than 11,000 employees.

Its Center for Blockchain Technologies (CBT) is an academic interdisciplinary research center for Bitcoin and related innovations, and a think tank that brings developers and regulators together. It provides consulting services, knowledge transfer activities and internal solutions to industry members.

Paolo Tasca, executive director of the University College London Centre for Blockchain Technologies, said:

“We are very excited to be working with Gradbase on this first pilot in the UK. The UCL Blockchain Centre has played a leading role in the use of blockchain technology in education and we believe that in the future this technology will become mainstream.”
