Bitcoin exchange BTC-e: FBI took control of our wallets

Crazy Commentary : Cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e said that the FBI controlled the domain name where the wallet is located and entered its data center, causing service interruption. Troubled cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e said trading was halted because “FBI agents entered its data center.”

In a BitcoinTalk Monday article, BTC-e, which has been out of business for nearly a week, said it had been seeking answers from its hosting provider for six days.

The article also said that Alexander Vinnik, a Russian citizen arrested in Greece last week on money laundering charges, “was never in charge” of such services.

"Future updates will include various methods for restoring service and regaining control of our reserves," the FBI said, adding that it took control of the domain name where the wallet was located.

"If we are unable to re-start services by the end of August, funds will be returned from September 1st."

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last week announced that BTC-e would be fined $110 million for ignoring anti-money laundering regulations.

Previous messages on Twitter indicated that normal service would be restored by August 6, but this now seems unlikely.

"In the next week or two, we will evaluate and release information about the amount of funds the FBI holds and the amount that can be returned to consumers."
