San Francisco startup recently used its own way to support cryptocurrency payments

Golden Finance News - San Francisco startup Top Airport Parking offers discounted parking spots near Denver International Airport for $3.99 per day. The company recently began accepting more than 50 digital currencies, including Bitcoin, as payment methods.

The discounted parking spots are reportedly just a 10-minute drive from Denver International Airport. In Denver, there’s a new way to spend cryptocurrency.

Patrick Murray, CEO of Top Airport Parking, said it picked Denver as its first cryptocurrency market because it seemed like an inclusive city.

“Due to Denver’s tech background and the fact that our customers are mostly younger, we felt Denver would be a great place to launch this service, and we plan to slowly expand it to other cities this year,” Murray said.

At the same time, Murray said the company also accepts credit card payments.

Those interested in paying with Bitcoin must reserve a parking space in advance and pay on the Top Airport Parking website.

Cryptocurrency payments such as Bitcoin remain a rare payment method. According to CoinDesk's Bitcoin industry research results, the current cryptocurrency market remains speculative, and venture capital has remained basically flat over the past two years.

However, what has prevented Bitcoin from becoming mainstream is its price, for example, one Bitcoin previously cost around $1,200. Paying a $3.99 parking fee with Bitcoin means a small fraction of Bitcoin will be sent to the payment system of Noson (Top Airport Parking's parent company).

Stephanie Robert, vice president of marketing for the National Parking Association, said it's also an emerging technology being adopted by the parking industry.

“We believe this is an early stage company for bitcoin adoption and we haven’t seen this become an industry trend yet,” she said.

However, Murray said that accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is not to promote the company, he is just a supporter of this alternative payment method. Noson has invested in a new parking reservation and inventory management system, as well as additional security and verification systems.

“While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have yet to gain mainstream acceptance, we want to support them in our own way,” Murray said.
