Zcash Team Unveils Updated ‘Sapling’ Blockchain Roadmap

The team behind privacy-focused digital currency zcash has released a new development roadmap that includes details on its “Sapling” update.

According to a newly published blog post, the team developing the blockchain protocol has outlined plans to upgrade zcash’s functionality, with a focus on incorporating new innovations into the protocol.

Planned changes include a payment disclosure feature that would embed the information into the blockchain in a way that only the parties involved in the transaction can see it.

Additionally, inter-blockchain transactions involving popular public chains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum can be achieved through the XCAT (Cross-Chain Atomic Transactions) feature.

Once implemented, the new protocol would allow for the issuance of zcash tokens — similar to ethereum tokens, but with the added anonymity that the network touts.

The team wrote:

“Once we get to that stage of Sapling updates with user-issued tokens, which will require a full network update, we will name the new series ‘zcash Sapling’. At that point, there will no longer be a zcash Sprout series.”

The announcement comes as the price of zcash markets has fallen and yesterday dropped below $30 for the first time since its launch.
