Interpol holds latest digital currency conference in the Middle East

Rage Comment : From January 16 to 18, Interpol, Europol, and the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Committee of the Qatar Central Bank held an anti-money laundering and digital currency conference in Doha, the capital of Qatar. They discussed the application of digital currency in international criminal activities and called on law enforcement agencies around the world to work closely together. This is not the first digital currency-themed conference held by international law enforcement agencies.

International law enforcement and government agencies will hold a conference this week on anti-money laundering and digital currencies.

The conference, which is being held in Doha, Qatar, is being supported by Interpol, Europol and the Qatar National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee, which is part of the Qatar Central Bank.

Sheikh Fahad Faisal Al-Thani, deputy governor of the central bank and chairman of the anti-terrorist financing committee, called on law enforcement agencies around the world to work closely together, local media reported.

“We hope that this conference will help advance the capabilities of virtual currency investigation agencies and build a network of experts and practitioners in this field.”

Interpol has organized such conferences in the past and even developed its own digital currency for training purposes.

Last March, Interpol organized a four-day war game to simulate a scenario where virtual characters extorted Bitcoins, with law enforcement officers from more than 60 countries participating.
