Medicinal Genomics puts cannabis on the blockchain

Rage Review : As more and more people try to patent their cannabis varieties, Medicinal Genomics and its blockchain database have great potential for development. The company is a molecular biology and genomics laboratory that has created a cannabis genome library. After DNA analysis, the genome information will be recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain. This will not only make cannabis legal, but also form industry standards and mediate industry disputes.

The use of blockchain technology in intellectual property management is a well-known application. There are a large number of startups and established companies working on creating patent and copyright management platforms using distributed ledger technology. Although digital currency platforms initially considered the music and film industries as their main customers, American marijuana growers think this is wrong.

In an increasingly obvious trend, more and more cannabis growers in the United States are eager to register their cannabis on the blockchain. Medicinal Genomics allows growers in 25 legal cannabis states in the United States to register their cannabis on the blockchain. The company is headquartered in Massachusetts and is a molecular biology and genomics laboratory that is involved in the creation of a cannabis genome library. After DNA analysis, the genomic information will be recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain. In addition to creating a cannabis genome library, Medicinal Genomics also tests cannabis plants to understand the cannabinoid content and any microbial contamination to ensure that the cannabis complies with existing regulations.

In addition to cannabis control, the cannabis registry created by Medicinal Genomics also helps the industry form standards. To test cannabis, cannabis growers can order a DNA purification kit from the company and follow the instructions to extract and purify plant DNA. The extracted DNA can be sent to 15 Medicinal Genomics partner laboratories in Alaska, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Upon receipt, the genome will be sequenced and compared to the reference sequence to classify it. In order to distinguish, the difference between the reference species will be recorded.

The analysis report for each sample is converted into a cryptographic hash and added to the Bitcoin blockchain. Once recorded on the blockchain, the reference hash is timestamped and stored indefinitely. Anyone with the hash key can easily access these records.

As more and more people try to patent their strains of marijuana, an immutable database would be handy for verifying and mediating disputes.

Cannabis growers across the country, interested in creating their own strains and brands, are flocking to Medicinal Genomics to analyze and sequence their plant samples. As more states look to legalize marijuana, Medicinal Genomics and its blockchain database have huge potential for growth.
