Bridging the blockchain technology gap – the birth of a new technology

What is the technology adoption cycle? How can disruptive and innovative high-tech enter the mainstream market? In this regard, Matej Michalko, founder of blockchain content publishing platform DECENT, expressed his views.

How a new high-tech product is adopted by the public is probably known to everyone as a bell curve. This curve looks continuous, but in fact it is not. It is divided into 2 main parts:

1. Early Markets: First, there is a group of innovators, of which technicians account for about 2.5%, and they gather in places such as hacker centers. Then there are early supporters, about 13.5%. It is very important to maintain this group before launching your high-tech products into the mainstream market. The early market accounts for 16% of the total.

2. Mainstream Markets: The majority of pragmatists in the early stage accounted for about 34%, the majority of conservatives in the later stage accounted for 34%, and the backward critics accounted for 15%. It can be seen that the mainstream market accounts for 84% in total.

The Chasm : We can see on this curve the chasm, a huge rift between the early-stage market and the mainstream market, which is where the red arrow points.

Segway : As a product that has been on the market for nearly 10 years, Segway has never crossed this gap and it is still not a mainstream market device. You may occasionally see someone using it on the street. Do you know why Segway cannot cross this gap? Because it has not fully realized its function as a means of transportation. There are many steps in the city, but Segway cannot climb stairs.

Michalko said that what DECENT really wants to do is to bring their technology from the early market to the mainstream market. DECENT wants to develop from the hacker space to the Apple store, cross the technological gap, and truly bring blockchain into life and into the mainstream market.
