Bank of England seeks leadership in digital currency research

Rage Comment : The central banks of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia and other countries have plans and initiatives to issue digital currencies. As the Bank of England said, the issuance of digital currencies by the central bank is conducive to boosting GDP growth. Various theories and studies have shown that the issuance of digital currencies by the central bank is conducive to national economic development and stability. Therefore, the Bank of England, which has been paying attention to the task of issuing digital currencies, began recruiting economists who can guide this task this month. However, more theoretical and research evidence is needed to support this goal, so it will take a long time to achieve this goal.

The Bank of England is looking for an economist who could lead research into issuing a digital currency.

According to a job vacancy posted by the Bank of England, the head of research will be responsible for promoting the issuance of a blockchain-based digital pound, working to realize a plan that the central bank began preparing last year.

The central bank is looking for someone who can lead the work and explore whether users "need" the "popularization" of such electronic currency.

"The person in this position will be responsible for setting the research agenda, conducting research, and exploring issues raised by banking and academic experts. He will also be responsible for summarizing the impact of the central bank's issuance of digital currency on monetary and financial stability from the research and making policy recommendations to the bank president."

However, there are signs that the study will take longer than expected. Bloomberg pointed out that the Bank of England had already announced job vacancies this summer, indicating a lack of qualified candidates or that the research project set high recruitment standards. However, the central bank may not be in a hurry.

Recent statements from central bank executives and the UK government suggest that the idea of a central bank-issued digital currency is still several years away.
