This time, it’s for real. Some Ethereum community members set up 51Pool to collect computing power in order to launch a 51% attack on ETC.

Since ETC tokens were listed on major exchanges, there have been rumors of a 51% attack on ETC. Most of them are just talk, without any actual action. Recently, some members of the Ethereum community took the initiative to launch a project 51Pool , specifically to collect computing power for a 51% attack. It seems that this time they are serious. This also shows from the side how the Ethereum community members behave when they encounter difficulties.

Since Ethereum Classic proved that it has the ability to stand on its own feet, the Ethereum community has become increasingly hostile to the project. This situation is a bit abnormal. Although one forked and the other remained the same, the two ecosystems are essentially "from the same root" and "why not be so eager to fight each other."

This project called 51Pool was spontaneously organized by members of the Ethereum community, and its ultimate goal is to completely destroy the ETC network. Its official website states that this mining pool aims to collect computing power to launch a 51% attack on ETC. Before the computing power is collected, 51Pool is an ordinary Ethereum mining pool. After the computing power is collected, they will not hesitate to launch a 51% attack on ETC. Currently, the mining fee of 51Pool is 0.25%. When the project was just launched, the fee was 0, and it was obvious that this mining pool was not very stable.

Currently, Ethereum Classic has a hashrate of 464 GH/s , so 51Pool still has a long way to go to reach its goal.

If 51Pool really gathers enough computing power, it will launch multiple 51% attacks on ETC. The founder of the mining pool said that at that time, a modified version of the Go-Ethereum client will be used to launch the attack and take the blocks that ETC has mined.

As for why everyone should support 51Pool, there are several reasons:

- Check if the ETC blockchain is truly immutable

-Eliminate ETC computing power and destroy the ETC network

-Removing obstacles for the development of ETH

- Increase ETH market value

-See how many anti-fork advocates actually believe that “code is law”

- Record your actions in history

Of course, 51Pool’s ideas do not represent the entire Ethereum community. Unfortunately, any ETC supporter may become an innocent victim of this “war”. But Ethereum developers are absolutely capable of stopping things before things get worse. As for whether they will intervene, it is unknown.
