Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson said he would consider granting immunity to Snowden and Ulbricht.

In 2015 , Silk Road founder Ulbricht was convicted of multiple charges including drug trafficking and Bitcoin money laundering . Before that, Silk Road was the most popular dark web on the Internet. On Silk Road, you can buy any illegal items you want, including drugs and guns.

Snowden, a former national security analyst who is living in temporary asylum in Russia, released a trove of classified documents to journalists after the U.S. government indicted him on espionage charges in 2013 .

Gary Johnson , the former New Mexico governor and Libertarian presidential candidate, recently said he would consider pardoning Snow. In a statement, Johnson's outreach director Joe Hunter said: "He has made it clear on many occasions that he would seriously consider pardoning Edward Snowden , and that, as far as public information is concerned, Snowden's actions have not caused any harm to American intelligence personnel ."

Hunter added that Johnson will also consider pardoning Ross Ulbricht . Johnson is described as promising to grant pardons to people imprisoned for alleged snitching and nonviolent drug crimes .

The United States currently has the highest incarceration rate in the world . Hunter said:

Governor Johnson was so angry about the fact that the United States had the highest incarceration rate of any developed country that he announced in 2012 that once he became president, he would immediately begin pardoning nonviolent criminals who had not really harmed anyone .

Of course, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are currently in the final stages of the presidential election, and it remains to be seen whether non-violent criminals will be pardoned in the future . According to reports, Hillary once said that Snowden broke the law and should be tried. Trump showed a more extreme attitude. He said in a Weibo post in 2013 that Snowden should be sentenced to death. From this point of view, it seems that it is not easy for criminals to get immunity.
