Can blockchain reform elections?

Rage Commentary : After Brexit, many British people regretted the voting results, all because the traditional voting system could not provide voters with real-time voting data. Once blockchain is added to the voting system, it can support early voting from smartphones; support real-time viewing of votes, open and transparent review of the number of votes; change of mind before voting begins; and provide real-time voting results on the spot. Follow My Vote is a blockchain-based voting software that promises to revolutionize elections.

Changing your mind during an election and viewing the ballot box in real time are direct benefits of blockchain-based election mechanisms.

Fresh from the shock of the Brexit vote, followed by a political conference slamming the coddled Twitter feeds and big screens, some ask if elections have changed over the years?

The answer is of course yes, partly because public opinion spreads more quickly through social media. We all know that the British people regretted their decision after the Brexit result came out. We don't need journalists to tell us what certain people think of Trump or Hillary.

It is amazing that despite all the technology available, we still need to go to a voting booth to vote, trust a counting system (remember the hanging ballots), and wait for the vote to be counted. The speed at which voting happens cannot keep up with the speed of the media.

Some developers say this is unnecessary. Blockchain can be adapted to voting, allowing early voting from a smartphone; allowing votes to be viewed in real time, with transparent auditing of vote counts; allowing people to change their minds before voting begins; and providing real-time voting results on the spot.

Follow My Vote is a blockchain-based voting software that promises to revolutionize elections.

It works on the same principle as Bitcoin, a decentralized encrypted ledger run by computers, and many say the open-source, secure, peer-to-peer asset management and payment system could have many other uses.

These include banking, distributed patient healthcare data, real estate transactions, and elections. I recently wrote a private blockchain operating system that solves banking software problems.

The Follow My Vote system, like other blockchains, removes the risk of vulnerabilities. The risk of fraud, external influences such as intimidation, miscalculations and other shenanigans are also eliminated.

Additionally, voting information will be put on 21st century social media, and an individual's actual vote, not just his post-vote tweets or exit polls at the polling station, will become an element of the display on Election Day.

Agencies see the transparency of the software they are about to use as a plus.

How blockchain works in voting

At a high level, blockchains manage a database securely through network nodes, which maintain copies of the ledger. Presumably, this makes fraud impossible because each node has a copy of the database, and unfinished transactions are added to blocks and deemed valid by hash scoring.

Each new block has a hash function and must be linked to the previous block chain - this block is technically called a "chain", and if it doesn't match the previous blocks, it will be rejected.

Follow My Vote lets users log in their voting ID using a webcam and a government-issued ID card along with their smartphone.

"After they've chosen their candidate, they can open the ballot box with their unique voting ID, find their vote and check it's correct," the company said.

Voters can then control the vote and change it according to their preferences.

Follow My Vote has successfully demonstrated its blockchain proof-of-concept at “several events.”

"Let's face it. After you vote, no one except election officials knows what happened to your vote," the agency's website says.
