U.S. regulators, lawmakers and entrepreneurs will gather this week at the New Hampshire resort of Bretton Woods to explore guiding principles for the blockchain industry. The three-day conference, hosted by consumer rights group Consumers' Research, officially kicked off today. The main goal of the conference is to publish a white paper on Money2020, the payments industry conference in October. Government representatives confirmed to attend the meeting include the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Department of Commerce (DoC), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Coin Center and MIT Media Lab will also send representatives to attend. Joe Colangelo, executive director of Consumers' Research, said in an interview that blockchain and distributed ledger technology have a great impact on all walks of life, but regulatory issues have always hindered their development. This conference aims to establish standards for the operating models of Bitcoin and blockchain companies, and will also involve regulatory issues. |
