Statistics: Only 1.76% of the Bitcoin community are women. How to solve the problem of extreme polarization?

There are only a few female presences in the Bitcoin community today, with the exception of a few organizations like The Digital Citizen Fund . Officially called the Women Women's Annex Foundation Annex Foundation, the organization uses Bitcoin to pay girls and women in developing countries to learn about technology, virtually connect to other countries around the world, and gain the necessary skills to succeed in the global marketplace.

According to data provided by Coin.Dance, the gap between the number of men and women using digital currencies is so large that it cannot even be called balanced. Analyzing the gender ratio of Bitcoin community participation through Google, the results show that the proportion of male users is 98.24%, while female users are only 1.76%.

Marion Deneuville, Project Manager at Kaiko, explains: “I am a female Product Manager at a Parisian Bitcoin startup. The stats provided by Coin.Dance feel consistent with anecdotal evidence from a Parisian Bitcoin meetup. However, before working in Bitcoin, I worked in technical roles in AdTech where the ratio was slightly better. Bitcoin attracts people who are technically inclined, so it is not a gender-balanced place.”

Last year, 36 men and one woman attended a major bitcoin summit on Richard Branson's private island. According to the survey, 96% of the 'average bitcoin user' in 2013 were men.

Deneuville added: “I would say that to understand Bitcoin you need to understand some software concepts, such as encryption, which you don’t learn if you are not in the tech industry or are not a tech enthusiast. In the current tech professional environment, there are fewer women than men, so there are fewer women working on these concepts.”
