Litecoin was created in 2011, and its total supply is four times that of Bitcoin, or 84 million. It is halved every four years. Litecoin was once the digital currency with the largest market value after Bitcoin, but now its market value has long been surpassed by Ethereum.

Release major update version

Of particular note in the 2016 roadmap released this time is that Litecoin will try out Segregated Witness and Lightning Network.

According to the roadmap, the kernel development team plans to release a major update version - v0.13.x in September and October this year. The code is more optimized and the functions are richer, including the highly anticipated "isolated witness", "lightning network", "smart contracts" and other functions, which can increase the transaction verification speed by 5-7 times, support larger transaction volumes, solve transaction scalability issues and other features. After the news was released, some users commented: Litecoin is actually a good supplement to Bitcoin. Litecoin is the first to experiment with some things that are controversial in the Bitcoin community.

A more user-friendly wallet is close to completion

The annual development plan also includes newly developed iOS and Android wallets. Previously, a major obstacle for Litecoin users was the lack of iOS wallets, but this situation is about to change. LoafWallet, based on Bitcoin Breadwallet, is an iOS wallet that uses SPV mode, using AES hardware encryption, mobile application sandboxing, and code signing to protect user funds.

The Litecoin electrum light wallet is also under development. The client fully covers the three major platforms of Windows, Mac and Linux. The Android platform version is currently being developed and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Association progress and personnel changes

In addition to the progress in development, the changes and future development of the Litecoin Association are also the focus of this year's roadmap. The association first announced the joining of Franklyn Richards, who has been involved in the development of Litecoin since 2013 and helped improve the LoafWallet and Litecoin.com projects; at the same time, the board of directors appointed Robert (AKA Red and KSAREDFX) as the system administrator of www.litecointalk.org, www.litecoin.info, and Robert is also an early participant in the Litecoin project.

The Litecoin forum was hacked in March this year. Before the new litecointalk.org is launched, reddit will be used to communicate with everyone. At the same time, due to personnel and work changes in the association, a new association website will be officially launched.
