HSBC executive and SWIFT director Marcus Treacher joins Ripple

Today we announce the appointment of Marcus Treacher as Global Head of Strategic Accounts. In this role, he will expand our strategic accounts team and drive continued growth across Europe and around the world.

Treacher brings more than 30 years of experience in banking transaction and payment systems technology to the company, including global leadership roles at HSBC, Citigroup and Accenture, and served as a director of SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) from 2010 to 2016.

Prior to joining Ripple, Treacher’s most recent position was Global Head of Payment Innovation at HSBC, where he built a new team to apply emerging financial technologies to solve clients’ challenges in payments, trade and supply chains. The project under his leadership included building an international mobile payment model and driving the adoption of blockchain and distributed ledger technology.

Treacher also brings experience working with global industries, organizations and governments to form new financial and payment businesses, such as SWIFT's Global Corporate Consulting Center, which he chaired from 2010 to 2016, and more recently, the Innovation Center, which he established in partnership with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

"Treacher brings incredible experience working with financial organizations to create better payment systems, and we are proud to have him join the team. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to helping banks stay ahead of the curve, and his insights will be invaluable as we help our clients improve global payments for value."

Based in our London office, Treacher will apply his deep background in payments and banking infrastructure to help commercialize and scale Ripple’s distributed financial technology around the world.
