BNP Paribas partners with SmartAngels to help startups issue blockchain securities

BNP Paribas Securities Services has announced that it has partnered with French crowdfunding platform SmartAngel to jointly launch a pilot project that will use blockchain technology to provide small companies and startups with the ability to issue shares and receive retail investment.

The pilot project, the first of its kind in France, is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2016, if it receives regulatory approval.

The blockchain portion of the pilot will be designed by BNP Paribas Securities Services, and companies currently on the SmartAngels platform will automatically be given the ability to issue securities on the new platform.
