Microsoft really loves Bitcoin, the new version of Excel will soon support Bitcoin currency format

There were rumors that Microsoft might consider abandoning support for Bitcoin in Windows Store. Microsoft not only stated that it had no such intention, but also seemed to intend to make Bitcoin a more important component. Foreign media reported that future updates of Excel will enable it to provide native support for Bitcoin currency format. Excel is of course a component of Microsoft Office productivity tools, and it is currently available on multiple platforms on desktops and mobile devices.

The news comes from Reddit user cartidgez, who posted the above picture of the Office 365 upgrade content as evidence of the news. He said that the subsequent Office 365 update will enable major Excel versions to support the Bitcoin currency format, including versions for PC and smartphone platforms.

“You can now track, calculate, and analyze Bitcoin data using native Bitcoin number formatting options in Excel. This feature will be available in Excel 2016 for Windows, Excel Mobile for Windows, Excel Mobile for Android, and Excel Online,” the post reads.

There is no more specific information about the rumor, but the rumor also mentioned that Microsoft may add support for 8 decimal places, or support for the Bitcoin currency format, to make data organization more convenient in Excel.

The recent update of Microsoft's FAQ page made many people think that Microsoft may no longer provide support for Bitcoin in the Windows Store. Microsoft quickly issued a statement to apologize for the error and clearly continued to support Bitcoin: "We continue to support Bitcoin recharge to Microsoft accounts, which can be used to purchase content in the Windows and Xbox stores. We apologize for the previous unintentional error on the Microsoft website, which has now been corrected."

However, we still don’t know when the new version of Excel that supports the Bitcoin format will arrive, perhaps later this year.
