Ghana-based IT solutions company Ghana Digital (GDC) has launched what it says is Africa’s first bitcoin mining facility. GDC Chairman Nii Quaynor has made history as an early Internet pioneer, launching one of Ghana’s first Internet service companies in 1993. He has served on the ICANN board of directors and is a member of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum Advisory Group. Quaynor said in the statement: “As one of the first computer companies in Africa, we are very interested in seeing the adoption of computing science in Africa. We pioneered the development of the Internet and will do the same to promote the development of Bitcoin in Africa.” GDC said its support for Bitcoin is intended to drive cryptocurrency adoption in Africa, just as it believes in digital currencies. The decentralized ledger, blockchain, has the power to transform global finance. The company did not provide further details about its mining facilities, but said it would strive to launch more cryptocurrency products as soon as possible. |
