Translation: Prince Gong There are many blockchain use cases, not all in the financial sector, that are developing slowly but steadily because people have seen many advantages of this technology. In Ukraine, the next series of elections may use the Ethereum blockchain. This electronic election system is quite novel even in the global voting method, and can be used in different elections in the future. E-Vox Elections Integrates Ethereum Blockchain Technology Currently, the election process still lacks transparency and it is difficult to get real-time results. Although countries around the world use electronic voting systems, it still takes several hours for manual verification. If the entire process uses a distributed ledger, it can greatly facilitate and simplify the entire process. Ambisafe has developed a prototype election system based on the Ethereum blockchain. Instead of using colored coins or issuing new assets, the company deployed native smart contracts that will account for differences in Ukrainian politics. When the E-vox system is called upon, it allows elections at any level and provides sufficient scalability. One of the main reasons why smart contracts were used instead of using a colored coin solution is that Ukraine has a set of regulations that require special consideration. Voting requires first being registered as a voter, and hybrid solutions are not allowed. It is possible that a colored coin could represent different votes, which would be declared invalid. Smart contracts circumvent these issues, and they are native to the Ethereum blockchain. The first phase of testing of the prototype developed by Ambisafe will see E-vox used for purposes such as applying for and consulting on voting. These tests will test whether the prototype is viable and how it can be improved in the future if necessary. Once the tests are deemed successful, Ukrainian law will be amended to accommodate these new technologies. Some may wonder if this system will run into regulatory issues and be stopped. While it is possible that E-Vox will be censored by the government at some stage, several politicians have been involved with Ambisafe and their project. It will be unknown until the last minute whether the system on the Ethereum blockchain will be considered legal. Ambisafe is not the only one involved in this large-scale project. Their partners include the Ukrainian Bitcoin Foundation, Bareger Group and Distributed Lab. More strategic partnerships are on the agenda, but no official details have been revealed so far. Ukraine confirms their blockchain system This is not the first time Ukraine has used the distributed ledger technology provided by the Ethereum blockchain. In January 2016, the Ossad region of Ukraine announced a new online auction website based on blockchain technology. The main purpose of the platform is to sell and rent state assets in a transparent way, while combating corruption and fraud. Furthermore, Ukraine has been working hard to educate consumers more about blockchain. A few weeks ago, a BIP002 meeting was held in Lviv, and in September 2015, a Bitcoin conference was held in Kiev. It seems that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and blockchain technology will bring a brighter future to Ukraine. |
