Netflix exec suggests opening up to Bitcoin

At an investor event earlier this month, Netflix Chief Financial Officer David Wells mentioned the topic of Bitcoin.

On January 6 and 7, Wells was asked about the lessons Netflix learned from launching payment services in Latin America at the 2016 Internet, Media and Telecom Conference.

Wells said the company is still adapting to those lessons, as well as integration experiences from Europe. He said the payments world is in a state of evolution, and bitcoin could be a solution to the problems it faces.

Wells said:

“From a payments perspective, we’re going to see changes over the next 10, 15 years because countries still want to maintain their monetary policies. But it’s certainly a good option to have Bitcoin, which in theory as a global currency you can use around the world.”

While Wells did not mention Netflix was integrating Bitcoin, the comments are sure to fuel speculation that the company is at least aware of the technology.

The giant company recently expanded its popular content streaming service to 130 countries, including major regions in Asia.

Regarding speculation about Bitcoin integration, Netflix representatives declined to comment.
