Recently, Lithuania has shown its interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. In April, the country will host a Bitcoin conference that will feature innovators and developers. In addition, the Baltic-Review detailed the claims of Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Marius Skarupskas, who is clearly a fan of the new technology. Skarupskas considers blockchain technology a “financial innovation” that he does not want his region to miss out on. The deputy minister explained:
Skarupskas believes that technologies like Bitcoin and blockchain are innovative tools that will change today's financial markets. The two Baltic regions have recently shown considerable interest in FinTech and this new digital architecture. Companies like Spectrocoin and others are promoting learning and acceptance of digital currencies in the region, and the protocol is becoming increasingly popular. There have been many reports of the Baltic region's interest in the technology, such as Air Baltic becoming the first airline in the world to accept Bitcoin. Marius Skarupskas is pleased to see Lithuania and Vilnius becoming one of the strong R&D regions in this field. Deputy Minister Skarupskas explained:
With this enthusiasm, the city of Vilnius, in partnership with Nextury Venture Capital Association, has decided to host what they call “the largest Bitcoin and Blockchain conference in the Baltics.” The event’s website claims that Global Finance called Lithuania one of the “most innovative countries in the field of online banking.” The conference hopes to use this visibility to encourage experts, industry executives, and innovators to meet in the region to discuss these emerging technologies. The event will be held in Vilnius on April 8, 2016, focusing on digital currency solutions and distributed ledger protocols. Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius has said: "We are pleased to see that international companies are increasingly considering Vilnius as a financial innovation (center). We want to go a step further and become a regional innovator in emerging financial business areas and be seen as a global FinTech (financial technology) center. The conference scheduled in April will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest financial innovations and discuss in detail the possibilities offered by Bitcoin with the help of professionals." The Baltic countries seem to be embracing these technologies faster than most and have shown a lot of enthusiasm in this emerging economy. Merchants and services have sprung up, including a Lithuanian airline service. Several restaurants, a taxi service and other retail stores in the country have adopted digital currencies in the past year. The event is a large-scale demonstration of the region's strong support for global innovation. Original article: https://news.bitcoin.com/lithuania-shows-serious-intentions-blockchain-innovation/ |
