Internet pioneer Pindar Wong: Bitcoin creator should not be punished

Internet pioneer and VerFi chairman Pindar Wong delivered an impassioned speech to authorities amid speculation that the identity of Bitcoin’s creator may finally be confirmed.

     Wired and Gizmodo published Wong’s speech at the Finnovasia FinTech conference in Hong Kong yesterday, claiming that bitcoin’s long-anonymous creator is Satoshi Nakamoto , while the Guardian published a separate article revealing that police visited the 44-year-old Australian on Wednesday.

     In his brief comment, Wong advocated that the entire global village should sympathize with the creator's plight, whether he is Nakamoto or just a newcomer who was caught in the media pursuit trap and forced to reveal his identity.

Wong told the audience:

     "I want to encourage everyone to support this creation of his own. The only reason we're having this discussion here is because this person innovated, so he shouldn't be punished for his creation."

     As members of a panel moderated by Wong made comments, he spotted heads of regional blockchain startups Bitspark and Gatecoin speaking alongside executives from UBS and WIP Solutions .

     Hong Kong’s first commercial Internet service provider (ISP) has become a leader in the bitcoin industry thanks to his role at the Scaling Bitcoin conference.

     The conference, usually held in Montreal and, more recently, in Hong Kong, seeks to bring together the global bitcoin development community as it seeks to upgrade the technology amid growing enthusiasm from investors and traditional financial firms.
