International hacker group intercepts ISIS's $3 million Bitcoin wallet

Forward-looking technology news: After the Paris terrorist attacks, the international hacker group "Anonymous" declared a cyber war against ISIS, the mastermind behind the attacks. GhostSec, an affiliated hacker group from Anonymous, announced in a video that they had intercepted a Bitcoin wallet believed to belong to ISIS, which contained $3 million worth of Bitcoin and may be related to the Paris terrorist attacks.

Previously, Deutsche Welle reported that IS is experimenting with using Bitcoin and gold to evade financial monitoring, and recently issued its own currency, the "Gold Dinar". "Ghost Security" believes that Bitcoin is the primary form of cryptocurrency for the extremist organization "Islamic State", and also stated that it has located several websites on the deep web that the "Islamic State" uses to accept donations.

Ghost Security representatives said they found the Bitcoin wallet by tracking the transfer records, and that the wallet received $23 million in Bitcoin in September. Ghost Security also said it did detect signals related to ISIS and terrorist attacks, but also said they are currently collecting valuable intelligence for the US government, so they cannot reveal more about the current investigation.

Regarding the cyber war launched by the Anonymous hacker group against ISIS, some cybersecurity experts questioned the effectiveness of the attack and worried that the hackers' actions would interfere with the investigation of the police and intelligence agencies. French cybersecurity expert Laurelli said that by investigating the online accounts of ISIS members and analyzing the connections between them, the police may provide important clues for the investigation of the terrorist attack. However, if the Anonymous hackers invade and close these accounts, the investigation will not be able to continue, and even if Anonymous attacks and closes all the online accounts of IS members, the effect will only be temporary.

However, judging from the video speech of "Ghost Security", they may have certain connections with the US government. The international police still have no good solution to the use of Bitcoin to commit crimes, and are often less efficient than hackers.
