Bitcoin company Coinbase plans to expand into Asia and Latin America next year

Coinbase is looking to expand its bitcoin trading business to other parts of Asia and Latin America.

At the Money20/20 conference, Coinbase product manager亚当•怀特told CoinDesk that the goal is to expand Coinbase's operations to 40 countries by next year, with Asia and Latin America being the primary focus areas.

In September this year, Coinbase used Singapore as a pilot to test the Asian market for the first time, and the Latin American market is a brand new market for Coinbase.

White said a new announcement about the expansion could come in December or January, depending on whether Coinbase can get through local regulators.

Recently, the application of blockchain technology has become very popular. For example, Coinbase's local competitor itBit also joined this field in August. However, White said that Coinbase has no plans in this regard and they will not launch private blockchain related products for corporate merchants.

He told CoinDesk:

“Our position at Coinbase has always been to be the infrastructure for bitcoin, providing buy and sell services.”

Coinbase should continue to strengthen its partnerships with payment companies that provide consumer-facing services, as well as those that invest in startups, White said.

Investors behind Coinbase include BBVA Ventures, the venture capital firm of Spanish bank BBVA, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and USAA, a financial institution that specializes in providing services to military personnel. USAA recently launched a pilot project in cooperation with Coinbase, allowing Coinbase users to check the Bitcoin balance in their Coinbase accounts through their USAA accounts.

The expansion is the latest in a series of developments that Coinbase set in 2015 as a goal to become an international company.

When Coinbase completed its $75 million Series C round of financing in early January this year, CEO  布瑞恩•阿姆斯特朗predicted that Coinbase's business could expand to more than 30 countries by the end of 2015. Brian's prediction has come true, and Coinbase's business has expanded to 32 countries.
