In order to help change the perception that Bitcoin and digital currencies are "currencies for criminals", a group of Bitcoin companies jointly stated at a recent forum that they will assist law enforcement agencies in jointly combating Bitcoin crimes.
The alliance was initiated by Washington-based Bitcoin exchange Coin Center and the Digital Chamber of Commerce to provide support and assistance to regulators and authorities in combating organizations that use distributed ledger technology to carry out criminal activities.
Well-known companies including Bitpay, Circle, Coinbase, and Xapo have joined the alliance. They all hope to use this alliance to restore the industry's reputation and get rid of the bad reputation brought about by illegal incidents of companies such as Silk Road and MT. Gox.
The alliance will work with the Department of Justice, and other outside agencies such as the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission will also participate. The alliance said: "By dispelling people's misunderstandings about Bitcoin , other electronic currencies, and blockchain technology, and letting the public see the sincere cooperation between the industry and relevant institutions, we can promote the introduction of a system that will not hinder industry innovation while effectively managing the industry." |
