BitPay and French company ING jointly launch Bitcoin POS machine

Recently, BitPay cooperated with France's ING, the world's largest POS machine manufacturer, and successfully used its POS terminals to open the door for physical stores to accept Bitcoin.

The payment method was developed by BitPay and installed on the ICT250 terminal of ANTI, the magazine Blockchain Week reported today. The company said that this new method still uses the existing operating system Telium, so it is compatible with most ANTI terminals.

Speaking of the partnership, Miguel Angel Hernandez, General Manager of AZ, said in a statement:

“Being able to participate in such a major project fully demonstrates our leadership in the payment field, while providing a secure and stable payment method for end users.”

On the Anzhi terminal, a QR code will appear after the merchant enters the price of the product. Users only need to scan the QR code using the Bitcoin wallet application to complete the secure payment.

Headquartered in France, ING employs more than 5,000 people worldwide and achieved profits of 1.37 billion euros in 2013.

Promoting Bitcoin worldwide

Earlier this year, ING partnered with Paymium to help retailers in Europe accept bitcoin payments.

However, a BitPay spokesperson said the new partnership could not be rolled out on a global scale, and added that all BitPay merchants that run electronic payments through compatible AZ terminals can accept Bitcoin payments.

“We are delighted to be working with ING, a leader in payment processing for both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce businesses. This partnership will help us further expand bitcoin payments to the world,” said Tony Gallipi, CEO of BitPay.

The company also made headlines last month when it announced it would reduce its workforce to better keep up with industry developments.
