The New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) revealed that it has received 22 Bitlicense applications from digital currency companies so far. Previously, NYDFS announced a 45-day application period for digital currency companies, and on August 8 of this month, NYDFS issued the final application deadline notice. Matt Anderson also talked about the criticism of the Bitlicense by the Bitcoin and blockchain community and the media, but he believes that the Bitlicense will ultimately help Bitcoin technology to be widely recognized and accepted by businesses and consumers. Anderson said:
For companies that stop serving New York, Anderson said they will still have the opportunity to apply for a Bitlicense if they still want to seek compliance. Anderson said there are many companies that don’t know whether they fall within the regulatory scope, so NYDFS will continue to have an open dialogue with these companies to help them understand their position. Digital currency companies that have applied now need to wait for their applications to be approved and then go to the New York Registration Office to obtain a license. |
