What is the relationship between the philtrum and women?

You often see in TV dramas or the news that when someone faints, their philtrum is pinched immediately. The philtrum is located at the midpoint of the nasolabial groove of the human body and is an important emergency acupuncture point. In physiognomy, one can tell a person's status, wealth, lifespan, luck, and whether or not he or she has descendants from the length, width, depth, and straightness of the philtrum.

The philtrum of a healthy person is narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, forming a straight trapezoid. Some people's philtrum is pear-shaped. The groove is very deep and can be seen at a glance. The edge of the groove is very clear and tight. The luster, brightness and color of the philtrum are consistent with the surrounding area.

The philtrum is closely related to women

Women's bladder and uterus are located in the pelvic cavity, and the diseased color of these organs can be reflected in the philtrum. The junction of the upper and middle 1/3 of the philtrum is the colored part of the uterus and bladder, so the development of a woman's uterus, bladder, reproductive function of the uterus and urinary function of the bladder can basically be seen from this part. The uterus is a reproductive organ unique to women. The reason why women can menstruate and conceive a fetus is all thanks to the uterus. If the uterus is abnormal, there will generally be diseases such as menstrual irregularities, leucorrhea disorders, and reproductive and fertility disorders.

For a healthy woman, the complexion of the philtrum is the same as that of her face, which is faintly reddish and yellowish, bright, moist, and subtle. This indicates that the person has a strong spleen and kidney, and is well-developed in both her innate and acquired constitutions. For those whose philtrum has normal color and shape, it indicates that their reproductive organs such as uterus and vulva are well developed. Women's menstruation, ovulation, reproduction and bladder function are normal. What are the specific connections between the philtrum and women?

Changes in the philtrum during pregnancy

An exceptionally bright and moist philtrum may be a sign of early pregnancy, and it also indicates that the pregnant woman has abundant qi and blood, and that both mother and child are healthy.

After pregnancy, if the philtrum becomes longer than before pregnancy and the complexion becomes red, yellow and lively, it often indicates that the fetus is male.

If the philtrum of a pregnant woman is dull and yellow in color, shallow and flat in shape, and the philtrum is in the shape of an inverted trapezoid or inverted pear that is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, it indicates that the fetus has stopped developing or may even die in the womb.

Pregnant women whose philtrum is reddish, who feel burning, or even develop a rash, usually have severe fetal toxicity, and their newborns are prone to sores and boils.

The philtrum is dark in color, dull and withered, or has pigmentation, which mostly indicates infertility due to kidney deficiency.

The shape of the philtrum is related to fertility

Among the 70 infertile patients, only 10 had straight and pear-shaped philtrum, while 60 had flat, concave and narrow philtrum, accounting for the vast majority. Among 100 women who gave birth normally, 97 had straight or pear-shaped philtrum grooves, which is almost all of them. The results of the comparison between the two groups showed that women with straight and pear-shaped philtrum have better fertility. This confirms that a wide and straight philtrum is better than a short and narrow philtrum.

Philtrum shape is related to uterine size

Among all 170 subjects examined, 110 had normal-sized uterus, 105 of them had straight and pear-shaped philtral grooves, and only 5 of them had the other three types of philtral grooves. This indicates that people with a straight or pear-shaped philtrum have a normal-sized uterus.

The philtrum is related to many aspects of female reproduction

For example, the time of menarche. Girls with normal or S-shaped philtrum have their menarche earlier, usually at the age of 12 to 14 years old. Girls with a shallow and short philtrum have their menarche later, usually between the ages of 15 and 18. People with an S-shaped or inverted pear-shaped philtrum will experience obvious abdominal pain and back pain during or before menstruation. Amenorrhea is more common in patients with a short and shallow, long and narrow, or skewed philtrum. Most people with congenital infertility have a short, long and narrow, or shallow philtrum; most people with secondary infertility have a skewed or mixed (several abnormal forms coexisting) philtrum.
