Media giant Google has lifted its ban on certain cryptocurrency-related ads, allowing centralized cryptocurrency exchanges and digital wallets to promote their services on the platform in the United States. Cryptocurrency-related advertisers need to meet several conditions to be certified by Google, namely, the company needs to be registered as a money services business with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), be licensed as a money transmitter in at least one U.S. state, or be a federally or state-chartered banking entity. In June, Google outlined updated advertising policies, adding that their effects will take effect on August 3. Furthermore, cryptocurrency advertisers must comply with all corresponding legal requirements and Google advertising policies. On August 3, Google revoked all previous cryptocurrency-related certifications, meaning exchanges and wallets must apply for new certifications. While cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets can once again advertise on Google’s services, other cryptocurrency-related projects and activities remain banned. |
