【Filecoin Weekly Report-58】Calibration network launched, rewarded testing enters countdown

【Project Introduction】

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network that transforms cloud storage into an algorithmic market .

Miners - earn FIL by providing data storage and retrieval

Clients - pay FIL to allow miners to provide storage, distribution and retrieval services

【Project progress: Testnet phase2

Tested version:

  • Calibration stage

Test objectives:

  • Network security

  • Calibration network test (already started)

  • Testing Rewards Program (launched in the week of August 3 in the US)

  • Economic model parameters (some initial parameters have been written into the network)

Project progress:

  • Testnet is offline and enters the calibration period

【Last week’s hot spots】

  • The biggest event last week was undoubtedly the start of the calibration period . Since this is the closest “mock exam” to testing the reward program network, I believe many miners are actively studying their configurations in the network.

  • At 9 am on July 22, the Filecoin Community Miners Conference was held as scheduled, and the Force Zone broadcast it simultaneously. What did you gain from this conference?

  • In addition to the community miners' conference on July 22, Force Zone also teamed up with Ostrich Blockchain to hold an online AMA - Is Filecoin a bull market starter or a bubble?

"IPFS Force Zone × Ostrich Blockchain: Filecoin, a bull market starter or a bubble?"

  • On the same day, Yuanli District visited Hotbit and discussed Filecoin with the host in the HOT TALK live broadcast room.

"Will Filecoin ride the wind and waves, or drift away?"

【Last week’s testnet progress】

1 ) The Calibration network had issues with collateral, wdpost, etc. last week, and was subsequently reset and restarted.

2) Testnet operation status:

https://calibration.filscan.io/#/

(14:10 data)

  • The reset was carried out at noon on July 24th, Beijing time, and it ran for two days until last weekend and was basically stable.

    • Last week, the block height exceeded 7000, the effective computing power of the entire network exceeded 1.0PiB, and the original computing power was close to 389TB.

    • Last week, the block reward for each winner was close to 5.5 FIL. The economic model is currently being adjusted, so the block rewards you see will be very different from before.

    • The block rate is relatively stable, with an average block interval of 25 seconds and few empty block rounds; the average number of blocks per round remains at around 3.0

    • The average number of messages is about 27.4, and many miners are on their way.

    • The message size is about 439 bytes, which is relatively small, indicating that a large number of messages do not take up much space. They may be mainly used for transfers and miner creation, and proofs take up a part.

3) Main issues:

  • Large amount of mortgage

  • Gas setting is not high enough

  • Slow message packaging

【Last week’s development progress】

  • New code and bug fixes:

    • The mortgage mechanism in the economic model is initially implemented and enters the Calibration network

    • DRand Network Upgrade

    • The WindowedPoSt mechanism is further improved and more refined

    • Improve the calculation of gas consumption

    • Improve network links and PeerMgr

    • Block reward distribution starts with Wincount calculation

    • Increase the flexibility of network links

    • Increase the rate of block on-chain

  • Design and Proofing Updates:

    • There are no major updates. The main work is on documentation and some minor bug fixes, providing ARM support, etc.

    • NSE implementation is still in progress

    • The design part mainly focuses on document optimization

    • The design of the economic model has not been completed yet, so stay tuned
